Howard T. Sutter

Mr. Sutter was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He has lived in the
Jacksonville area for more than 10 years. Mr. Sutter graduated from Florida
International University in 1976 with a degree in Business Management. He
received his Law Degree from Nova Southeastern Law Center in Ft. Lauderdale in
1980. Mr. Sutter began his legal career as an associate with an Admiralty firm
in Miami. Since that time, he has always focused on Admiralty law, and has
handled a wide variety of admiralty and maritime cases, including cargo claims,
collision, limitation of liability, personal injury, salvage, marina liability,
vessel arrests, seamen and longshoreman injuries, various types of liens,
warranty issues, vessel mortgage and documentation, salvage, vessel fires and
vessel repair disputes. Mr. Sutter also has substantial experience in real
estate, and has been lead counsel of record in approximately 30 appellate
matters.
Mr. Sutter is Board Certified by the State of Florida as a
specialist in Admiralty and Maritime Law. He is admitted to practice in the
State Courts of Florida. He has handled appeals in the first, third, fourth and
fifth District Courts of Appeal in the State of Florida. Mr. Sutter is admitted
to practice in each of the Florida Federal District Court divisions, the
Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court for
Federal Appellate matters. Mr. Sutter is a member of The Florida Bar, the
Jacksonville Bar Association, The Jacksonville Federal Bar Association, and the
Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. Mr. Sutter has been a featured speaker on
several occasions at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences on
Key Biscayne, Florida on the topics of the law of finds, the law of salvage, and
maritime liens.
Mr. Sutter has been married to Judy Sutter for more than
20 years and together they have three girls. Mr. Sutter is an avid racing and
cruising sailor and boating enthusiast and is a member of the Florida Yacht Club
in Jacksonville. Mr. Sutter is one of those rare admiralty lawyers who does own
a boat. Mr. Sutter has substantial inshore and offshore experience in small
boats, ranging in size from dinghies to power and sailing yachts in the 50 foot
range.
